I’m new to yoga. Which class should I take?

Welcome to yoga! Many of our classes are beginner-friendly, and our teachers offer options so you can practice in a way that works for your body. Check the class description or contact us if you’d like help choosing your first class.

I am not flexible, can I still practice yoga?

Absolutely. You do not need to be flexible, experienced, young, or any particular body type to practice yoga. Our classes are designed to meet you exactly where you are.

Do I have to pre-register?

Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome when space is available. You can register online or arrive 5–10 minutes before class and we’ll get you checked in.

Are kids allowed?

Yes—older kids who are able to stay on their own mat and participate in the class are welcome to practice with a parent or guardian for $5. Our regular studio classes are not designed for little children who need active supervision or may have difficulty staying with the class. We want the experience to feel supportive for both families and the rest of the room. What do I need to bring?

Wear comfortable clothes you can easily move in and bring water if you’d like. We practice without shoes. If you have a yoga mat, bring it—but complimentary community mats and a filtered water station is available for free.

Do I need to bring a mat?

If you have a mat, bring it with you. If not, complimentary community mats are available. If you have a mat please bring it, if not, we got you covered. We offer community mats for FREE for our students.

How early should I arrive?

If it’s your first visit, we recommend arriving about 10–15 minutes early so you have time to check in and get settled in.

Is there parking?

Yes. Free street parking is available along 60th Street and in the surrounding area.

Do you have a changing room?

Yes. We have one restroom and two private changing stations available for students.

What if I have an injury, limitation, or need modifications?

Let your teacher know before class. We encourage you to listen to your body, take breaks when needed, and choose the variations that support you best. Remember to stay in the pain free range of motion. Yoga is not about forcing or causing pain, it is quite the opposite. Do only that which does not cause pain and feels soothing or strengthening for your body. Skip EVERYTHING that will overextend/overwork/exacerbate any injury or pain. Modifications are often offered during the class but even if they are not in a given moment, since you know your body better than the teacher, listen to your body and do what feels most supportive.

Is Yoga a religion?

No. Yoga is a holistic practice with ancient spiritual and philosophical roots, but you do not have to follow a particular religion to practice at The Tree. We approach yoga as a whole-person discipline that can include movement, breathwork, meditation, mindfulness, self-study, philosophy, and other contemplative practices. We welcome people of all faiths, spiritual paths, and those who do not identify with any particular faith or religion.
